Everything You Need to Know About the Best BMX Bikes for Everyone
One of the most diverse and inclusive forms of cycling, BMX encompasses urban stunt riding, coastal cultures as well as rural contests. Originally based on repurposed Schwinns, the sport swiftly evolved to include everything from 12-pound terrors for Expert-category riders as young as six to the 29-inch “bike life” cruisers cherished by the Brooklyn wheelie culture in later years.
You’ll have to sacrifice some performance in one area to obtain it in another, just like on mountain bikes. However, the variety of adult-sized BMX bikes isn’t as outlandish as it is on the mountain, so you can compete on your skatepark bike or vice versa.
One Concept, Six Paths
There are six basic types of BMX bikes. Stiff frames and precise sizing distinguish race bikes from other types of bicycles. If you are looking for a bike for “cruiser” races, there are six frame sizes to choose from in the 24-inch wheel range. Dirt, park, and street bikes all share a sturdy steel-frame design, but each is tailored to a certain riding environment. A slew of new “retro” bikes, which mimic the looks of their 1980s and 1990s forefathers but include greater rider space and more durable materials, will pique the curiosity of middle-aged riders eager to relive their youth. Last but not least, “BikeLife” is a whole new approach to BMX that was developed by forward-thinking street riders in Harlem, Philadelphia, Oakland, and elsewhere.
A “dirt” or “park” bike will be preferred by most riders, but youngsters under the age of twelve who plan to compete in races should instead go for a bike that is specifically designed for that purpose, or they will be a long way behind their peers in even novice-level competition.

Hey, all I am Joe Marino I love to ride bikes and teach others how to ride them. Most of my articles are about which bike is best for others. I am passionate about cycling and it shows, whether I am writing about a $25 bicycle from any random website or a $5000 Santa Cruz.
I have always been the guy who gets calls from friends while at work asking which bike they should buy. I have written about the best city bike for commuting, the best folding bike for use on public transit, and even what to keep in mind when shopping for kids’ bikes.
You can follow my blog and read all of my other articles on my website.
